It is a sorrowful time of healing for many - but despite the rhetoric of some, the island is still welcoming people from the outside world. An argument could even be made that one of the best ways to help the Maui community recover is by visiting and supporting local businesses. The Governor of Hawaii himself made essentially this very case for Maui travel alongside President Biden back in August - so long as visitors stay mindful of the guidelines for where and where not to visit.
Outside of Lahaina, the epicenter of the wildfire damage, Maui is still hosting several intriguing events and festivals that are as keen on your attendance as ever.

2023 Events and Festivities
Turkey Trot
This, technically speaking, is a race - but it’s a pretty unusual one. Unlike most races, crossing the finish line first does not equal victory. Instead, how accurately you predict your own time determines your position on the scoreboard. There will be a 5K and an 8-mile run, and the Maui Food Bank will collect donations.
When: Thursday, November 23rd, 7 AM - 11:30 AM

Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival
Presented by the Maui Chamber of Commerce, this 2-day event is the most significant product show on the island. It is all about local businesses and artisans. You’ll find art, crafts, food, and lots more - all stemming from the creative talent of the Maui community. This annual tradition typically attracts 10,000 people each year. The first, held in 2014, had over 130 vendors - but the event has grown in size each year since. This year, more than ever, its by-design economic boost to the local economy is much needed - and while there, you’ll find plenty of evidence why Maui’s local community deserves our support.

Hui Holidays 2023
The Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center’s massive holiday shopping event begins mid-November. This allows visitors to shop locally in a big way - everything from ceramics to paintings to holiday ornaments. Much of what you’ll find in what has been described as a “winter wonderland” is handmade and one-of-a-kind.
