Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden, located in Kaneohe on the island of Oahu, is a 400-acre botanical oasis that focuses on plants from tropical regions around the world.
Ho’omaluhia, which means “to make a place of peace and tranquility,” was established by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1982 as part of a flood protection project. Today, it serves as both a flood control area and a lush garden, offering visitors serene environments filled with tropical plants and trees.

The garden features plants from various tropical regions, including Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Polynesia, and Southeast Asia. There are themed sections with collections of palms, aroids, heliconias, and other tropical species. The garden’s peaceful, expansive grounds make it a popular spot for birdwatching, with native and migratory birds frequently spotted in the area.
