2024 Events and Festivities

No matter the season—be it winter, summer, spring, or fall—Kauai, the Garden Island, consistently delights nature enthusiasts with its natural splendor. March offers visitors a chance to explore vibrant local farmers' markets brimming with fresh produce, engage in tours of historic sites, enjoy outdoor art exhibitions, and much more. Even during the quieter times outside the peak season, this smallest of the islands offers a wealth of activities in its idyllic setting.

Below, we've highlighted the top events and festivals on Kauai Island in March 2024.

Tours of Grove Farm Museum

One of the first sugar plantations in Hawaii, Grove Farm was founded back in 1854. Today, the site, just southeast of Lihue, is a museum and an excellent historical and cultural landmark. 2-hour guided tours, which have been back in full swing since 2022, run throughout March, happening twice daily every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Where: Grove Farm Sugar Plantation Museum
When: 10 AM and 1 PM - Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays

Aloha Friday Art Nights

A fantastic (and completely free) way to connect with local art and artists on the island of Kauai is by visiting Kress Street in Lihue on Friday afternoons this March.

This is the site of Aloha Friday Art Nights, where local artists take to the street and showcase their talents live - “from music to murals.” It’s free fun for the whole family and a great way to connect with local culture.

Where: Kress St, Lihue
When: Fridays, 2 PM - 6 PM

Hale Puna Farmers Market

Hale Puna is one of the oldest buildings in Hawaii, first constructed in 1828 in West Kauai as the home of Reverend Peter Gulick. Today, owners are restoring the property and transforming it into a traditional forest garden and community center.

One of the reasons why the Hale Puna Farmers Market is an excellent choice for your local produce search is that 100% of the proceeds go to support interns at their farm school. Hale Puna is also a great place to support because of its role in the community. For instance, they offer a CSA program.

Where: 9567 Huakai Rd, Waimea, HI 96796, United States (under the giant monkeypod tree!)
When: Thursdays, 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Alakoko Shop Plant Swap Sundays

If you’re a fan of plants, few places in the world offer a more impressive array. The people of Kauai are proud of their relationship with the natural world, and one place this can be seen is every Sunday at the Alakoko Shop in Lihue.

Operating with the hashtag #plantsarefriends, “Plant Swap Sundays” are set to run weekly throughout March.

Where: Alakoko Shop on Kress St, Lihue
When: Sundays, 10 AM - 2 PM
