2022 Events and Festivities

With COVID restrictions on domestic visitors virtually gone, travel to Hawaii is ramping up for spring and summer.

As May approaches, visitors to Kauai are starting to fill up their calendars. Kauai is generally a more rugged, adventure-prone destination when compared with its neighbors. The calendar is often less packed with scheduled events like concerts and festivals than, say, on Oahu.

However, we’ve scoured the lists and handpicked our top 3 recommendations to save you the trouble. Here are the best events and festivals coming to Kauai in May 2022. As usual, keep an eye on these as the dates approach.

Kauai Songwriters Music Festival

Featuring Grammy-winners and internationally renowned songwriters and poets, the Kauai Songwriters Music Festival is one of the highest caliber artistic showcases on any island year-round.

This large, all-encompassing concert will be held on May 7th at Wailua Bay’s Hilton Garden Inn. Tickets cost $25, doors open at 3:30 PM, and the show starts at 4.

If you are musically inclined or simply interested in local Hawaiian art and want to witness some of the state’s most esteemed artists, this is a show you can’t miss.

When: Saturday, May 7th, 3:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Where: Hilton Garden Inn Wailua Bay

Kauai Poke Fest

This self-explanatory event is every bit as intriguing as it sounds.

Making a much-awaited comeback in 2022, Kauai Poke Fest will be held on the evening of Saturday, May 28th. In addition to delicious poke served by the “godfather of poke himself,” Sam Choy, guests will be treated to live entertainment such as music and hula.

It should also be mentioned the event is to be held at the Koloa Landing Resort in Poipu, boastful home of the “best pool in America” and the site of the Grand Ballroom, which - it just so happens - is the venue where the poke will be served.

This is a total no-brainer if you love poke, but anybody interested in food and festivities while visiting the island of Kauai should make sure to add this to their May calendar.

When: Saturday, May 28th, 4 PM - 7 PM

Where: Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu, Autograph Collection

Community Caring Day at Lawai International Center

Another great opportunity is to volunteer with the local community at Lawai Center. Every Saturday starting in May, the Lawai Center will serve you homemade lunch in exchange for working alongside others in their gardens.

We recommend this for anyone looking to soak up the sunshine and connect with the local community in a wholesome way.

When: Saturdays, May 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 9 AM - 1 PM

Where: Lawai Center

More Info: Community Caring Days

This May on Kauai, you can catch a massive concert featuring Hawaii’s best and most decorated musical artists. You can taste, savor, and celebrate one of the culture’s most popular and distinctive original cuisines as its proclaimed godfather prepares it. Or you can volunteer and connect directly with the local community in the world-renowned outdoors.

Whatever choice you make, it is sure to enhance your visit tremendously. As always, mahalo, and best wishes for your visit!
