Hawaii 'Safe Travels' program concludes March 25th

Hawaii Travel Restrictions will end for domestic travelers

According to Hawaii Governor David Ige, the state of Hawaii will drop the current 'Safe Travels' program for domestic travelers at midnight on March 25, 2022. The governor made the announcement in a press conference on Tuesday - March 1st. Governor Ige continues to urge people to continue taking precautions. The indoor mask mandate will end the following day.

Under the new guidelines, the first-day travelers could visit the state without Safe Travels restrictions will be March 26th beginning at 12:01 am HST.

That now means beginning March 26, 2022, domestic travelers to Hawaii will no longer need to wear face masks indoors, fill out online forms via Safe Travels, no longer have to worry about QR codes, no longer have to provide proof of vaccination, and ultimately, there won't be any additional requirements or restrictions to fly to Hawaii on a domestic flight.

Hawaii Islands Repeal Restrictions

On the county level, the County of Kauai, County of Maui, and County of Hawaii have repealed their COVID-19 Emergency Rules. The City and County of Honolulu's Safe Access Oahu program will end on Sunday, March 6, 2022. More details on that below.

International passengers will continue to follow the requirements that were put in place by the federal government.

"Safe Travels is one part of a multi-layer approach to COVID safety. The program played a key role in keeping Hawaii's residents safe before vaccinations were widely available, and during the surges we've seen through this pandemic," said John De Fries, Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO. "Bringing the Safe Travels program to a close reflects the progress we have made as a state, and Governor Ige’s decision is a good balance of maintaining reasonable health precautions while reopening our society and economy."
